Introducing Cloud Backup: Protecting Microsoft 365 & Entra ID

Backup and restore has become a must-have in modern IT stacks. It’s critical for compliance, insurance, minimizing downtime, and protecting against ransomware.

When it comes to Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, Microsoft’s native backup capabilities are quite limited and actually not designed as true backup solutions. That’s why we’ve launched Syncro Cloud Backup.

Syncro Cloud Backup is a fully integrated backup and restore solution for Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, built directly into the Syncro Extended Monitoring and Management (XMM)™ platform. It’s not your everyday product feature; it’s business insurance for your clients and a game-changer for your daily operations.

What can you do with Syncro Cloud Backup?

  • Protect More Than Just Files: We offer complete and full Entra ID identity infrastructure protection, along with backup for Microsoft 365, including Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and even Teams chats. This gives you a critical last line of defense against all types of data loss and identity threats.
  • Ensure Rapid Recovery: With flexible, point-in-time restore capabilities, you can confidently handle any data loss scenario. Quickly restore a single file, a user’s entire mailbox, or an Entra ID configuration in minutes, not days.
  • Simplify (& Strengthen) Your Tech Stack: Stop jumping between vendor portals. With our new cloud offering, you can proactively manage Microsoft 365 users, configure MFA, and maintain security baselines to prevent issues before they occur. And when the unexpected happens, you can react with secure backups and fast restores — all from one place.
  • Meet Compliance and Cyber Insurance Demands: Satisfy cyber insurance and regulatory requirements with verifiable, secure, and isolated cloud backups. Our solution covers everything from identity infrastructure to individual files, making it easy for you to export data for audits and prove compliance with frameworks like NIST and CIS.

I cannot seem to find the proposed per-user cost for this backup feature. Where/what is it? How does it compare to the Acronis app for backing up M365 data?

in the email that came through we got the following:

After that, it will be available with MSP partner pricing of $1.90 per user/month, which includes unlimited storage and your choice of data centers in the US, Canada, UK, or Australia. A free 14-day trial will also be available.

Thank you @des.quinn for jumping in with the pricing! If you can’t find that email, it’s also listed on our website under the “Compare Syncro Pricing Plans” section on pricing page: Pricing & Plans | Syncro

@dave5 I’d be happy to connect you with someone on our team to talk through specifics! At a high level, our focus on both Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, plus the integration across the rest of the Syncro platform, is what differentiates our offering from lots of other options out there.

Very interesting offering. Is it Syncro built from the ground up or rebranded? If rebranded which product is it? Also does it backups Teams PRIVATE chats (not just Teams Teams…)?

Very interesting.
As per other request, can you confirm if its ground-up Syncro or a rebranded service that sits integrated. This would be good to know.

For us and our customers, I would actually prefer if it is Acornis, just made fully integrated. The reason for this is brand trust. I don’t think I can sell Syncro as our customers and auditors won’t have heard of Syncro. For fuller intergration/automation/monitoring I would happy spend the little extra per user as noted.

Clarity would be great. Thanks in advance.

How are billing and backups calculated? Is it based only on licensed Microsoft users, or are shared mailboxes and unlicensed admin accounts also backed up and billed as users, or are those included for free, like with other solutions?

Hey @joe21 - good questions.

It is a Syncro solution.

We are happy to get on a call with you to talk through any specific concerns you or your customers may have! Let me know how that sounds and I can reach out to our team to setup some time with you

In many ways, that is a shame.

Can you share more technical information regarding transfer of data, handling of data and storage data centres being used and copy of your new DPA etc.

Without the backup service being a recognisable brand to our customers, I don’t think we will be able to use it. If it was a rebranded solution such as Acronis it would be a simple sell.

Many thanks

I think they will bring this up in the release call tomorrow. That’s usually when they share those more detailed instructions. At least, I’m sure it’s on the docket.

Jess,

I saw this on the Pricing & Plans page:

Protect your critical Microsoft 365 assets and Entra ID identity infrastructure with Syncro Cloud Backup. This add-on can be purchased with either Syncro plan, with MSP partner pricing at $1.90 per user per month.”

It’s interesting that I can purchase this with my Core plan even though M365 management requires the Team plan. If this backup service is focused on M365, how does that work for those of us who have the Core plan for Syncro?

yes private team chats are included

the team is going to talk through a bunch of the details on tomorrow’s monthly update webinar, you can register for that here: Syncro | Syncro Release Webinar, September 2025

(worth signing up even if you can’t attend live as you’ll get the recording emailed to you)

Hey @toddwentz - happy to add some clarification to this  Cloud Backup is built to work with both Core and Teams Plan (regardless of other Microsoft 365 features). This means, even if you aren’t using Syncro for all your Microsoft 365 management, you can still safeguard everything with our Cloud Backup add-on. We wanted it to be accessible to all Partners.

We do have a Release Webinar tomorrow where we will be diving deeper into Cloud Backup. There is a live Q&A portion as well. The registration link was shared by Brandon in this thread. Would love to see you there! Happy to answer any questions in the meantime. Thanks!

Thanks @Jess. I won’t be able to join the Release Webinar tomorrow, but I registered for it anyway so I can watch the recording afterward. I look forward to hearing more about this new service.

Hi moshe, thanks for the question!

The per user cost is calculated based on the number of backed up objects/assets selected on the tenant through Syncro backup, regardless of Microsoft license. Shared mailboxes or unlicensed users would be charged at $1.90 each/month if they are selected to be backed up.

Oh thats rough, most M365 backups include shared mailboxes for free.
When you say objects what do you mean? Will there be an additional charge to backup the Intune and CA policies or groups and other general tenant data as well?

Psst. Over here. Don’t tell Jess or Brandon or any of the team I am telling you this but if someone doesn’t sign up for the webinar, Syncro has your back.

Because not everyone will be able to register, they’re pretty cool and post it to YouTube. Simply go to YouTube dot com and then add @syncroMSP at the end of the link or simply search for Syncro and go to their page. You’ll find some cool stuff there like “Power Hour” videos that show tips and tricks to using Syncro and scripting as well as all the other videos like Experts, Monthly release webinars. There’s even some old one’s that include @Andy :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: he’s a cool guy.

Disclosure: I don’t work for Syncro. I’ve just drunk the kool-aid and they had my favorite flavor.

Are there further announcements on this backup to be made that may cover the questions and concerns? If not, yes a call would be great.

Many thanks

Hey @joe21! We’re pulling in the right folks to address everyone’s questions above  But Cloud Backup will be covered in today’s Release Webinar with a Q&A session at the end with our CTO and Sr. Director of Product Management.

If you won’t be able to attend the live session, I can share the recording in the community as soon as it’s available to me!

This is a really good call out, Bill! You’re correct, there’s a ton of resources on our Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@syncroMSP)

We will continue uploading recordings to our Community so you have them all in here
